The first cargo ship shore connection system has been completed in Hunan Province which could reduce a huge air pollution in 2016. The long-term potential energy replacement in the whole Hunan Province up to 100 million kwh.

Chenglingji Newport port intelligent shore power supply system has completed the power test which means the first cargo ship specific shore power system construction was completed in Hunan Province.

Chenglingji New port is the core area of the Dongting Lake Ecological Economic Zone. For a long time, the ship can only burn diesel fuel after reaching port which becoming a major source of pollution in the port and Yueyang city.

In May 2016, Hunan energy company launched the Chenglingji port project feasibility study and design, upgrading the shore technology from the coastal port to the river. According to reports, There are 3 sets of Chenglingji port intelligent shore power supply systems with capacity of 450 KVA. The systems' structures are vertical type, rely on the intelligent low voltage node box setting in front of the cargo ship berth, using 400V/ 50 Hz low voltage shore systems to supply the power to the ships reaching port, replacing ships' auxiliary fuel supply, thereby reducing energy consumption and environmental pollution.

It is estimated that as soon as Chenglingji Port intelligent shore power supply system start work, the annual electricity replacement will be 657,000 kwh, reducing carbon monoxide 2199.5 kg, nitrogen oxide 3942 kg, particulate matter 131.4 kg, carbon dioxide 71.645 tons and sulfur dioxide 14.77 tons.

"The plan of State Grid Corporation: along the Yangtze River low voltage shore power systems facilities covered by 100% by 2020." The relevant person in State Grid Corporation said: the rivers and ports in Hunan are mainly existed beside Yangtze River, totally 373 navigable rivers and mileage of inland waterways 11,500 km, occupy 9.2% Chinese river navigation mileage, ranked third in China. Hunan province is expected to have long-term potential energy replacement capacity up to 100 million kwh.
